In other news, Chim is still terrible at Journal updates.
Only four and a half months since the last post this time, instead of six. So yay, improvement? I guess? Maybe?
I have been busy, mostly with band things -- of course it's band things -- but I've also just been a plain old lazy, unmotivated slob in the times where I'm not running between work and band rehearsal, when I could have written Journal posts or uploaded some of my thousands of photos from that Dolomites hiking excursion I did back in July HEY REMEMBER THAT? (And sometimes it is legit running between job and band. When I have jazz rehearsal, I hoof it home after work, grab my trombone and trombone stand and music stand and sheet music and assorted mutes, then dash out the door again to catch the light rail to our rehearsal location.)
Lots of stuff happened in October. First weekend was a band seminar (Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday); second weekend I don't actually remember but it was probably band-related somehow or maybe I actually worked that weekend IDK; third weekend was Regncon (best out-of-context quote from the con: "Okay, actually I think I will be taking the laser nipples after all."); fourth weekend was the regional band competition that all those workshop seminars were for (we came in dead last in our division but only by one point); and the final weekend was a small concert in the afternoon, and a bigger concert in the evening that ended up getting cancelled, but that was okay because it meant I could throw a little Halloween get-together (to which only one of my friends could make it, so we sat on the couch and watched Pacific Rim and stupid YouTube videos and ate cake, so hey, not a bad evening, all things considered.)
November was much the same, though a little bit calmer. One weekend with regular work stuff, one with a jazz band seminar, then a small exhibition at a school band competition, and this weekend that just was I had a big jazz band concert at a dance club, then a normal Saturday workday where I spent most of it putting up decorations in the storefront (gotta make some more music-themed paper snowflakes, I think), and today was my turn to run the Sunday cleaning crew at the cat shelter where I'm a volunteer. Also today was Regncon's annual meeting, so it was clean cat shelter, go to meeting, go back to cat shelter to close up for the evening.
Tomorrow I have a short band concert dealy, playing music at the Christmas market thing hosted by the school where we rehearse. We provide free music for them as a small "Thanks for letting us take over your music room one night a week." Am now proceeding to be a paranoid shit about some unruly child damaging my horn.
Then it's just two more concert band rehearsals before we have our Christmas concert on December 13th, and two more jazz band rehearsals, and then both bands are on break for the winter holidays. Yay.
Art-wise I have actually been working on a bunch of stuff! And it's almost done! Really! It's almost all engraving work, and some of it has in fact been mostly done for months, but I've been holding off on full completion until I have more things ready for the final step of fusing the paints and glow powders (because oh yes indeed more glowing things are coming), just so I'm not heating up an entire oven just for one puny rock.
I have five more simple things to engrave, which I hope to have done by next weekend, before final firing on all the backlogged pieces happens. So look for new works being posted soonish. I could photograph and post them now, but won't, in case something goes very wrong during the final stage and things get destroyed.
That's pretty much the main points of my life right now: work, band stuff, art projects, not writing dA Journal entries and generally procrastinating on posting photos of things.
Is anybody still interested in "Chim's Italy/Switzerland Adventures" from back in July? It has been a good four months since, so if nobody cares I'll just stick to finally choosing my favourite photos and writing some info on those, but if people want to hear more in-depth commentary, I can do proper rambling Journal posts too. If someone else wanted to read about it there'd be motivation to post stuff, at least, which is something I've kinda lacked the last little while.
Wow this turned into a bit of a rambly, almost-stream-of-conciousness mess of terrible. Clearly I don't know how to word anymore.
How've the rest of you been?

Giving Away a One-Month Core Membership
When dA introduced their new Fragments gem badge system my first thought was: "Great, another stupid new shiny thing trying to distract us from all the crap that's still broken around here (and also a shameless rip-off from other sites *coughredditawardscough*)." One result of that opinion is I rarely do anything with them and since Core members receive 25/50/100 free Fragments per week depending on membership level, I have accumulated a small pile of the things. So as the Journal title states, I'm going to be putting them to use for a giveaway. RULES: 1.) You have to have been Watching me from before this post went live. No following just because you want free stuff. 2.) You cannot currently have Core. Giving a diamond badge to someone who already has Core just awards them the badge and some Fragments; it does not extend an existing membership. 3.) You must be an active member of the site. If your gallery is empty and your faves are empty and your Watch list is empty and you haven't
Show Your Heart Challenge: Spread the Love
For Valentine's Day: Show Your Heart! Really ought to have been done yesterday, but I got home way later than intended and just kind of fell asleep in front of my keyboard. So you get this today instead.
About time I put up a new Journal thing anyway.
#ShowYourHeart challenge #3: Create a journal featuring art by your friends and loved ones.
(Watchers -- or even random people dropping by my page -- go ahead and toss one of your own works into the comments and I'll add it to this art feature.)
