I am so ridiculously proud of this thing you really have no idea. It's a redo of the third drawing down on this thing. A side-by-side comparison of the two is over here.

MY FIRST 100% DIGITAL DRAWING THAT DOESN'T SUCK! :dummy:

This here is Ulixes, my basilisk OC. Usually he's pretty good at keeping the simmering rage in check, but make the mistake of pushing him too far and you get something like what you see up there. Even in a 'verse rife with fancy guns and energy beam weapons, he favours blunt objects and his own natural weapons of claws, teeth, fists and the serrated spikes growing out of his head and tail. Plus, standing at over three metres tall and composed almost entirely of muscle and fury, he looks hella intimidating. He's very much a mêlée fighter and moves a lot faster than would be expected, given his bulk. Your best bet is to shoot at him from a distance, because once he gets in close, you are so completely, utterly screwed.

Don't bother sparing any pity for the poor bastard(s) Ulixes is busy pulverizing. They probably deserve it.



Chim has figured out how to draw proper wounds. This bodes ill for the rest of her OCs. :iconevilgrin2plz:

(The following commentary is for the Critmas 2018- Let's go! self-critique daily challenge, in case anyone who comment-stalks my stuff might be wondering what the hell is going on below.)

Damn, Chimmy, are you still a bit proud of this dumb thing? Really? Granted it is a huge improvement over the original quick doodle, but you've got a long way to go before reaching any decent level of proficiency with digital painting (although the fact that the past few years' worth of GIMP releases have been aggravating as hell when it come to tablet compatibility hasn't exactly helped). 

His left leg (viewer's right) actually turned out pretty good, anatomically speaking, but the rest of the body is just a hot mess, now that I really study it. It's like each part stands reasonably well on its own, but nothing fits together quite right. The tail is too low, the right leg has some perspective issues and the knee joint is iffy, and what even are shoulders because those arms don't look like they're properly connected to the torso. And speaking of arms and torsos, this guy is supposed to be frigging jacked, like, just the most ripped lizard dude ever. You've got an okay start to adding muscular definition with the bit of shading there is on his chest and arms, but references will definitely help with this part. dA has no shortage of stock photos of shirtless men, so go fave a few of those as handy reference images the next time you try to draw beefcake lizard Ulixes.

Kudos for staying away from the dodge/burn tool when adding your shadows and highlights, and using different hues of "paint" instead. It makes for much more lively shading when there is some colour variation. Stick with this line-less painting style for now; you are definitely way better at it than you are trying to digitally colour inside the lines.

While we're on the subject of colour: tone it down some, maybe? I get that you like bold colours that pop off the screen, but some spots here are so bright as to be almost painful to look at, and it isn't helped by the fact that red and green are complementary colours and thus boost each other even more. Try out what some of your friends have been doing and toss up a quick textured gradient as background. It won't be as harsh as straight black or white. The reflection highlights on the tail jewellery do a surprisingly good job of balancing out that big-ass stick up top, though.

This piece does have a pretty good sense of motion to it, with the way the blood drops are flying and the tail is whipping around, and the overall triangular framing formed by the staff and the line along his torso and down his extended leg give the piece an unstable feel, which fits well to the chaos of a fight scene.
