Nexus Bindrunes Necklaces by ChimeraDragonfang Nexus Bindrunes Necklaces by ChimeraDragonfang
These were supposed to be Yuletide gifts for my Nexus pals ('cept the red one; that one's mine), but then the glow powders I ordered didn't all arrive until well into the new year, so things were kinda... delayed. Just a bit.

Okay, a lot.

But yay! Done now! And mailed out! And successfully arrived at their destinations! Now I can post photos without wrecking the surprise!

Chim really likes exclamation marks today!

Bindrunes engraved into black agate and painted in with UV-reactive glow-in-the-dark powders. The cords are braided leather and close with lobster-claw clasps. All the jump-rings are soldered shut for increased durability.

The red glow powder has an annoying pink tint to it in daylight, but it's an acceptable trade-off for that lovely deep red glow. All the other so-called "red" glow powders and paints I saw might have been less pink, but their glows all sucked. The other four all look more white in daylight, though very faint hints of their glow colours can be discerned when they're all together for comparison. The red has a very short glow time, but the rest still emit light several hours later, though in more of an indistinct off-white/greyish hue than the initial bright colours.

Drilling the holes through the agate discs took much less time than I expected it to. Using a water bath to cool and lubricate the engraving burrs does wonders, really. (I compiled an Instructable on my process over here.)

From bottom left to right they belong to: SH9DOW (green), Kestanesus (aqua), Aederith (blue), AngelWarriorQueen (violet), and me (red).

I don't remember if I thanked you or not yet, so I'm potentially belatedly doing it now; thank you so much! :] They're all so wickedly cool and they glow so vividly, too! Can't help but stare at mine when it's all lit up in the darkness; partly because "ooooh, glowy" and partly because the colour is my well-known weakness. The cords feel quite sturdy as well and built to last, which is probably better than most jewellery these days if I had to guess (based on how much people seem to like making really breakable technology.) All the more reason to wear them lots! :dummy:

Don't recall that you did, no. so you're welcome, and have a super belated reply in return.:lawoo:I wore mine while I hiked up Preikestolen (4 hours) and the Seven Mountains (12.5 hours slogging up and down some gloriously mud-covered rocks), so I can attest to it being at least durable enough for that, though I would damn well better be able to vouch for the things, since I made 'em.

It's really nice to see the others' necklaces too! Me and Kest love ours, and we think it's pretty cool how the two look rather similar. Got to say I love the bindrunes on yours and Angel's; their appearance stands out a lot in their simplicity. The colours are all so vivid, and it's great seeing their true colours after being charged up. I noticed Kest's has a faint turquoise tint to it as standard like yours is pinkish, but not nearly as prominent - but it's amazing how bright they get once sitting in the sun or under a lamp for a few hours. They all look so lovely as a set, it's really excellent work and thank you very much for the gifts once again. (:

Ahaha, yes, I also thought the similarity between them was a nice bit of serendipity. I'm rather fond of the simple design mine has, except you would not believe how goddamn hard it is to draw it and have it come out not lopsided. Just as frustrating as Angel's, in that regard. (You'd think the more complex ones would be harder, but nooo...) I'm still a little amazed that I didn't have to take seven bajillion photos of these things in the dark before actually getting one where they turned out looking more or less like they do in real life, although the glow looks much stronger in meatspace. Wearing these while running around one of those indoor laser tag places with the UV lights everywhere would be awesome.

Bindrunes are two or more runes combined into a single symbol.

And what stylish symbols they are, too. Though I may be a bit biased, being the one who made them and all. :B
