N7 Light

For once I did not have to take upwards of a hundred photos to get a handful I was happy with! Okay, I did still take about thirty or so, but at least the majority turned out decently and most of the culling was just down to choosing which ones showed glow intensity most closely to how it looks in meatspace, rather than "All of these are CRAAAAAAAAAP." *Cue angry mass deletion and multiple photo retakes.* I will conquer you yet, shiny-thing photography!

So, yes, the N7 logo from Mass Effect, engraved in clear acrylic and lit from below with LEDs. Makes cool patterns on the ceiling and goes nicely with the Paragon and Renegade Lights.

Getting everything into that aluminum base was a bit of a struggle, but it all just barely fits (obviously). I goofed on the base and cut the hole for the original on/off switch too big, so then I had to find one that was wider while not being deeper, otherwise there wouldn't have been enough space inside for the rest of the hardware.

Dimensions: Base measures 10.4cm x 6.8cm x 3.9cm. Acrylic plate measures 8.1cm x 4.75cm x 6mm, not counting the roughly 5mm of each plate recessed inside the bases. Total height is ~8.7cm. The acrylic plate can be removed for ease of shipping/storage.

Time Spent: Your guess is probably as good as mine.

Tools & Materials: Acrylic sheet, metal ruler, fine-point felt-tip pen, hacksaw, C-clamps, some kind of foamy plastic sheet stuff, sandpaper, buffer, buffing compound, computer, printer, paper, packing tape, Dremel rotary tool, assorted engraving burrs (mostly various sizes of round burrs, one tiny cutting burr), aluminum project boxes, pencil, flat and round coarse files, strip of black fabric, metal epoxy, two red and four white LEDs, really teeny resistors, breadboard, soldering iron, solder, wire, battery clip, 9-volt battery, toggle switch, drill bits, craft foam, craft knife, screws, screwdriver.
