Behold the newest works in my ongoing quest to sprinkle glow powders on everything I make.
They're heavily based on/inspired by the glowy crystal pendants in Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire, except I threw in some green and aqua along with the normal blue.

I'll probably make another blue one at some point because I'm not entirely happy with the glow strength of the two here. I used a "triple-glow" powder that is also blue-toned in daylight in the hopes that it would refract through the quartz enough to make it appear slightly blue-ish under said daytime lighting conditions (ą la the pendants in Atlantis) as well as in the dark (which it sort of does but not that great), but it doesn't glow as strongly or as long as the white-in-daylight blue I have.
As usual, the green charges fastest and glows the longest and brightest.
Charging them up is kind of a bitch because the light needs to be shining down through the crystal to get around the brass end-caps and reach the glow powder.
Top and bottom left photos are under UV light, middle two are glowing in the dark. Right side is different angles seen in daylight (okay, camera flash) and on my hand to provide an idea of size.
Lengths vary from 4.8cm to 5.9cm, including the bails. Widths vary from 1.5cm to 2cm. Weight... will have to get back to you on that. They're pretty hefty though, being made of rock and metal and all.
Time: Takes about four hours for me to knock out one of these.
Tools & Materials: Quartz points, brass sheet, brass tubing, pipe cutter, Dremel, cut-off disks, calipers, scriber, steel ruler, F-clamps, safety glasses, dusk mask, face shield, ear protection, angle-cutter, parallel-jaw pliers, square-jaw pliers, needle-nose pliers, assorted metal files, various grits of sandpaper, belt sander, steel wool, buffer, buffing compound, brass wire scratch-brush, pencil, hard silver solder, brazing flux, fire brick, brass rod scrap stock, baling wire, dental picks, propane torch, glow powders, clear epoxy, small popsicle stick, piece of plastic packaging as a mixing tray, paper towel.
