Engraving for Kitsune-Tearz

Feather engraved in glass for ~Kitsune-Tearz. A bit of a departure from my usual work; usually I go for deeply cut solid lines and shapes, and try to make them as smooth as possible. This is a lot more shallow, jagged and messy, and also done completely freehand, with no pattern stencilled onto the glass before I took the Dremel to it. The quick half-scribbled cuts using one of my smallest burrs provided the feather texture exactly how I'd hoped would happen. The crystal gem is set into an air bubble that I enlarged a bit to hold it.

Overall I am very pleased with how this all turned out, and I'll likely be revisiting this technique at some point in the future.

Time Spent: Not too long as my engravings go. I didn't keep track, but I'd guess under ten minutes total, plus another five to ten for painting and glueing in the gem.

Dimensions: Approx. 5.25mm long by 3.8mm at the widest part. 7mm thick; 8mm where the gem sticks out. (Bit over 2" long by just under 1.5" wide by just over 1/4" thick.)

Tools & Materials: Black ornamental glass stone, Dremel w/ flexshaft, safety glasses, earmuffs, dust mask, 1mm round diamond burr, strip of some kind of fabric, white porcelain paint, baking sheet, oven, blue glass crystal, jewellery glue.
