Cat Paw Pendants - Onyx and Jade in Blue by ChimeraDragonfang Cat Paw Pendants - Onyx and Jade in Blue by ChimeraDragonfang
The cat shelter where I volunteer had its Julemarked (Christmas market) this past weekend, so I made these to donate to the sale. I'm told both of them sold within the first hour.

Stones are black onyx and white jade. They were engraved with a Dremel and diamond burr, then filled in with a mix of varnish and blue glow powder, and sealed with a top coat of more varnish. Not shown in these photos are the jump-rings and necklace hoops I added later.

Each pendant measures about 2.5cm in diameter and 0.5cm thick (1" x 1/4").

Photos from top to bottom are: normal daylight (or in this case, desk lamp), under UV light, and darkness.

Time: Estimate total time for both of them together was about an hour.

Tools & Materials: Onyx, jade, Dremel, diamond burr, permanent marker, anti-slip mat, dust mask, face shield, ear protection, glow powder, porcelain varnish, dental picks, sheet of wax paper, baking sheet, oven, jump-rings, soldering iron, paste flux, soft silver solder, wire necklace hoop.

Very nice. :meow:
I would have grabbed them too. :)
:+fav:

Did you ever think about making some designs multiple times or do like it more if each one is unique?

Most things I make are unique. It's difficult to duplicate things exactly when it's all done by hand, and I prefer to make one-off pieces anyway. I did grab a few rocks out of my stash of tumbled/cut/polished stones and made a few more pawprint-themed pendants to put up for sale at the cat shelter. One of them is the same as these ones except it's black and green instead of black and blue. The others are all one-of-a-kind because no two natural tumbled stones are ever going to be the same. They should be posted later this week or early next week.

Oh, I'm aware that the stones won't look the same, I meant more like similar symbol and colours.
Looking at your works you mostly use a symbol only once and overall you use a lot of different minerals and colour combinations. :)

Next time you maybe can do something like a little auction, I'm sure it would have gotten more for the shelter. :meow:

Most of them I've just done once because I haven't had a reason to redo them yet. Plus new stuff is more fun than churning out more of the same.

So cute! I'm not surprised they sold within the first hour. ;) You did such a good job with them ^-^

Thanks. :D I enjoyed making then. So much of my engraving work takes easily upwards of an hour for one stone, so it was a nice change of (literal) pace to knock out something fast and relatively simple. Also I learned that onyx chips like whoa and I'll have to watch out for that on some future projects I have in mind.
